Our story

We uphold and foster the teachings of the Buddha through spiritual richness and human excellence.

Bao Chau Meditation Retreat was established in 2019 in Cottonwood, Arizona by the Buddhist nun Hai Chau. The retreat was named by Abbot Nhat Quang of the Thường Chiếu Zen Monastery.

It stands among the many monasteries that follow the guidance of Zen master Thích Thanh Từ, carrying forward the living lineage of Trúc Lâm — the Bamboo Grove school of Vietnamese Zen.
